§ 28. Mr. M. MacPhersonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what policy he proposes in order to overcome present and prospective difficulties in attracting and retaining teachers, particularly for secondary schools.
§ Mr. WoodburnAlthough there is at present a shortage of primary and secondary teachers, the students coming from the schools, together with those training under the Government's Emergency Scheme, will bring about steady improvement from this Easter. Pre-war standards should generally be restored at varying dates between 1949 and 1952, but I cannot say when the shortage of teachers of mathematics and science will be overcome.
