§ Mr. G. R. StraussThe total imports of iron and steel scrap from Germany in 1948 were 856,976 tons. The provision in the summer and autumn of last year of additional plant for the scrap recovery operations in Germany resulted in substantially increased imports during the last few months of the year. I am unable 125W to forecast what volume of scrap we shall be able to import from Germany this year.
