§ Squadron-Leader Kinghornasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will consider earmarking a portion of the Palestine Arab Refugee Fund for the purchase of Yarmouth smoked herrings which have a high protein value and for which there has always been a constant demand in the neighbouring Arab countries.
Mr. McNeilHis Majesty's Government's grant of £1 million to the relief of the Arab refugees was made to the United Nations Relief Organisation set up under the General Assembly's Resolution of 19th November. Under the terms of the grant the responsibility for deciding how this money should be spent rests with the Relief Organisation. The Relief Organisation was informed early in December, 1948, about the availability of British smoked herrings.
