HL Deb 03 March 1949 vol 161 c174WA
LORD BLACKFORD

asked His Majesty's Government, when daylight will be readmitted to the Royal Gallery; whether the mural paintings will be cleaned, and, if so, when, and at what cost.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF WORKS (LORD MORRISON)

The reinstatement of the stained glass of the Royal Gallery will begin after the completion of the windows in St. Stephen's Hall during the Summer Recess. I hope that the reinstatement will be finished by about March, 1951. The paintings in the Royal Gallery were cleaned several years ago, but it is proposed, after the repair work in the Gallery is completed in 1951, to treat them for the removal of surface dust. The total cost of the work would probably be about £40.

House adjourned at twelve minutes before seven o'clock.
