Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

asked the Secretary of State for War how many ex-Regular soldiers, employed as barrack-store accountants, and barrack-inventory accountants, respectively, have been discharged since the end of the war in Europe on the grounds of redundancy; and how many of such men are at present under notice of discharge on similar grounds.

Mr. Shinwell

Twenty ex-Regular soldiers employed as barrack-store accountants and 56 employed as barrack-inventory accountants have been discharged on grounds of redundancy since the end of the war in Europe; three employed as barrack-store accountants and four employed as barrack-inventory accountants are under notice on the same grounds.

Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

asked the Secretary of State for War how many men, who have never served in any branch of the Forces, are at present employed as barrack-store accountants and barrack-inventory accountants, respectively; and how many of such men are under notice of discharge on grounds of redundancy.

Five men who have not served in the Forces are now employed as barrack-store accountants and six as barrack-inventory accountants; none are under notice of discharge on grounds of redundancy.
