HC Deb 02 March 1949 vol 462 c39W
2. Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Postmaster-General if he will give approximate dates upon which it is anticipated that television stations will be erected at Sutton Coldfield, in South Lancashire, Scotland, the South-West, including South Wales, and the North-East of England.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

I regret it is not possible to give even approximate dates, but the B.B.C. expects to start regular transmissions from the Sutton Coldfield station in the autumn of this year.

3. Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Postmaster-General what is the anticipated cost of extending the television services throughout the country on the lines already announced.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

The B.B.C. estimate the capital cost, at present prices, of the five television stations referred to in my answer to my hon. Friend on 9th February, at about £1,750,000. The total cost of the necessary communication links to serve these stations cannot be estimated at present.
