asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how many applications for purchase of discharge were made in 1948: and what was the number granted.

During 1948, 1,629 applications for discharge by purchase were dealt with at the Admiralty. Of these, 1,027 were approved, 710 by purchase and 317 free.
