HC Deb 12 July 1949 vol 467 cc18-9W
Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the building of houses by direct labour by Thornaby-on-Tees Borough Council is being held up by a shortage of common bricks; and what action is being taken to remedy this position.

Mr. Bevan

The summer normally brings an increase in the demand for bricks, and I am aware that the Council have had difficulty in obtaining all the common bricks they need from their usual suppliers. Officers of my Department and of the Ministry of Works have already suggested to the authority alternative sources of supply.
