§ Mr. GaitskellThe United Kingdom coal export programme for 1949 provides for the supply of a small quantity of coal to Australia and 51,000 tons have already been shipped. Special requests are occasionally made for Government assistance in procuring particular qualities of coal of which there is an exceptional shortage here. One such request for 10,000 tons of large coal for Western Australia has recently been received and is under consideration.
