§ 48. Mr. Dobbieasked the Prime Minister if the Government has considered the question of equal pay for equal work when the same is performed by women in industry; and the possibility of applying this principle in Government controlled industries.
§ The Prime MinisterTerms and conditions of employment in private industry are a matter for settlement by the two sides through the established machinery, though the Government have asked that all questions of remuneration should be considered against the background of the White Paper on Personal Incomes, Costs and Prices. This applies equally to socialised industries to which I presume my hon. Friend is referring in the latter part of his Question.
