§ 83. Mr. McKayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the Reserve Police Force commenced in 1939 was abolished in December, 1948; that these men were thus thrown out of employment, without compensation, and no effort is being made to enrol them in the present police 171W force despite the shortage of policemen; and if he will take steps to get these men re-employed at the indoor work now performed by younger men in the police force.
§ Mr. EdeThe conditions of service of the Police War Reserve did not make any provision for the payment of compensation on the termination of their engagements. As regards the second part of the Question, special steps were taken to facilitate the transfer to the regular police of suitable members of the Reserve who wished to remain and the responsible authorities were invited to consider the possibility of offering employment in suitable cases on clerical work associated with the police service.
