CrippsIt is estimated that about £5½ million of Purchase Tax was paid, at the rate of 33⅓ per cent., in respect of drugs and medicines delivered by registered manufacturers and wholesalers during the period 13th November, 1947, to 31st March, 1948 (the nearest date to 5th April, 1948, for which the information is available); the receipts at the rate of 16i per cent. for the period 1st April, 1947, to 12th November, 1947, were approximately £5 million.
