§ Sir S. CrippsThe total amount of sterling released up to 31st January, 1949, since Egypt's balances were blocked in July, 1947, is £89.4 million. During the period from January, 1945, to 15th July, 1947, when the hard currency target agreement applied, Egypt's gross hard currency expenditure (including her own earnings) was about £31 million. Since the latter date we have made available to Egypt a total of approximately £8.65 million in hard currencies.
