§ 108. Mrs. Ridealghasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the subject of our exports of finished steel to Canada.
§ Mr. H. WilsonYes. I am glad to say that in conformity with the importance which His Majesty's Government attaches to increased supplies to Canada, the steel industry has agreed to make available to Canada increased quantities of finished steel in 1949. They are aiming, at a total tonnage for the year of from 80,000 to 90,000 tons. This represents a three-fold increase in supplies compared with 1948 and a six-fold or even greater increase compared with 1947. Canada will thus be one of the United Kingdom's largest steel markets in 1949.
