§ 81. Mr. Teelingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of our joint responsibility for the occupation of Japan, whether he has any knowledge of how long it is intended that United States troops shall remain in Japan; and whether he is yet in a position to make a statement concerning the date of the opening of negotiations for a Peace Treaty or similar instrument with Japan.
Mr. McNeilAs far as I am aware, no decision has been taken as to how long United States troops are to remain in Japan. As to the Peace Treaty, I178W regret that the procedural difficulties, which have hitherto blocked progress have not yet been overcome.
