HC Deb 14 February 1949 vol 461 c126W
2. Mr. Frederic Harris

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies who appoints the members of the Land Control Board in Kenya; what is its Constitution; and what are its powers.

Mr. Creech Jones

The Land Control Board was constituted by an Ordinance of 1944 and consists of the Commissioner of Lands, the Financial Secretary, the Director of Agriculture and six other persons appointed by a majority vote of the European elected members of the Legislative Council. The Board's powers extend only to European land transactions in the Settled Area for which its consent, subject to the approval of the Governor is required. The Board is empowered to impose conditions when giving its consent, and to subpoena witnesses.
