HC Deb 14 February 1949 vol 461 c125W
109. Mr. Burke

asked the Secretary of State for War why 250 men are being made redundant at the Long Marston depot whilst at the same site Polish labour is being retained.

Mr. M. Stewart

The labour in question was recruited from other districts by the Ministry of Supply at the request of the War Department to meet a shortage of labour in the Long Marston district. The work at this depot will call for a substantial reduction in labour by the end of February but instructions have been issued that any of the labour considered suitable for employment in the depot should be offered such employment in replacement of foreign workers, who would be reported to the Ministry of Labour for transfer to other work.
