HC Deb 09 February 1949 vol 461 c58W
49. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the large number of hotels and restaurants charging over the maximum prices allowed, he will cause to have fixed in every such establishment a public notice conspicuously displayed indicating the maximum price allowed during all hours that it is open to the public.

Dr. Summerskill

Hotels and restaurants are already required to bring any permitted variation from the normal 5s. maximum price for a meal to the notice of their customers. So far as the 5s. maximum for a meal is concerned, this is so well known that no special notice is now required. I cannot agree with my hon. Friend that a large number of establishments are charging over the maximum prices allowed.
