Hannonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that British manufacturers who have fulfilled contracts for rolling stock for Argentine railways have been awaiting payment for a long time; and if, in view of the adjustment of the wheat purchase, he will press for the discharge of those outstanding obligations.
§ Mr. J. EdwardsYes. I am aware of these difficulties and the firms concerned have been in touch with the Board of Trade. Representations have already been made to the Argentine authorities on this matter through His Majesty's Embassy in Buenos Aires and assurances have been received that steps are being taken to discharge the obligations referred to. I understand that officials of the Argentine Ministry of Transport have now arrived in this country to deal with this among other matters.
