§ Mr. StracheyOn the experience of the last year when very high prices were demanded and in view of the great unsatisfied need for soft fruits of the consuming public, I welcome all the imports of soft fruit which we can get. On the other hand, it is already clear that there is plenty of room for a further expansion of home production at prices highly remunerative to the growers. Imports of soft fruit during 1948 amounted to less than 3,000 tons compared with estimated home production of over 66,000 tons.
