HC Deb 14 December 1949 vol 470 c255W
2. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the present state of negotiations between His Majesty's Government and the Spanish Government on the loss of H.M.S. "Hunter" in 1937; and what progress has been made towards settling the claims of Mr. S. G. Thompson of 9, Sussex Road, Westham, Weymouth, Dorset.

Mr. Mayhew

The claim of Mr. Thompson was included in a single composite claim covering all the damage caused by the mining of H.M.S. "Hunter" which formed part of the general list of British claims arising out of the Spanish civil war. Since this list was presented to the Spanish Government on 18th May, 1948, two reminders have been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but so far no reply has been received. My right hon. Friend will continue his efforts in the hope of reaching a favourable settlement.
