HC Deb 14 December 1949 vol 470 cc277-8W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Transport what has been the total expenditure on his Department's road safety campaign since its inception in 1946; and to what extent he estimates that road accidents have been reduced as a result of the campaign.

Mr. Barnes

The payments made from the Road Fund since the inception of the road safety propaganda campaign in November, 1945, are shown below. It is impracticable to segregate the effect of propaganda from that of other factors which tend to reduce road accidents.

£
Central campaign 1,111,000
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents 344,000
Grants to Local Authorities 223,000
Highway Code (Expenditure less receipts) 66,000
1,744,000
