HC Deb 14 December 1949 vol 470 cc262-3W
Commander Noble

asked the Minister of Food what steps he has taken as a result of an appeal by the National Union of Small Shopkeepers concerning the shortage of rusks for babies; and what is the reason for this shortage.

Dr. Summerskill

We have had no general complaint of any shortage of rusks, except in the case of one manufacturer's products. As our advice is that rusks are not essential for the feeding of babies, we cannot give them any special priority in the allocation of scarce ingredients, like sugar. The National Union of Small Shopkeepers has been so informed.
