HC Deb 13 December 1949 vol 470 cc252-3W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for War if he can give any information about Private A. W. J. Baker of the Airborne Regiment, South Staffs, a prisoner in Russian hands; and what action is being taken to get him set free.

Mr. Mayhew

I have been asked to reply.

I would refer my hon. Friend to the replies given to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Brixton (Lieut.-Colonel Lipton) on 24th October and my hon. Friend the Member for King's Norton (Mr. Blackburn) on 9th November, 1949.

Private Baker absented himself without leave in December, 1947. Since that time the British authorities in Germany have made repeated representations to the Soviet authorities about his case and they will continue to press for his release or for the right to interview him.
