HC Deb 27 April 1949 vol 464 c12W
7. Professor Savory

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why the protection of the interests of the Danish-minded minority in South Schleswig was not included in the Occupation Statute for Western Germany among the powers specifically reserved to the Occupying Powers.

Mr. Bevin

The policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to the South Schleswig minority question has been to encourage the two parties concerned in Schleswig-Holstein to work out a permanent settlement to their mutual satisfaction. We consider this preferable to any temporary solution based on the continued right of the Occupying Powers to intervene.
