asked His Majesty's Government to expand Table 9 in Cmd. 7649, and more especially to give approximately for the years 1938 and 1947 the number of incomes and the total income before tax and total income after payment of income tax and surtax at 1947–48 rates in the ranges—

The information for which the noble Lord asks is not available, but he will find a detailed analysis of incomes in the surtax ranges in the Annual Reports of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue, and it is hoped in the forthcoming Report to give a classification of incomes below the surtax level.
