57. Mr. Amoryasked the Minister of Agriculture if he will revise the hiring contracts for Agricultural Executive Committee labour so that a farmer pays only for the actual number of hours work put in on his farm.
Mr. T. WilliamsI am not prepared to accept the principle that a farmer supplied with Agricultural Executive Committee labour shall be charged only for the hours actually put in by the worker on the farm, but I am considering, in consultation with the National Farmers' Union, who have made representations to me on the subject, whether some slight modification of the contract can be made without prejudice to the need to reduce the loss to the Exchequer arising from such labour services.
