HC Deb 01 April 1949 vol 463 cc148-9W
Mr. Beattie

asked the Prime Minister whether he has considered the advisability of introducing legislation to amend the 1920 Government of Ireland Act, by allowing the people of Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry, South Armagh and South Down to become a free people within the ambit of the majority rule in Ireland, in view of the expressed desire of the people in these areas at the recent General Election; and with what result.

The Prime Minister

I do not accept the implication in the Question and I see no justification for legislation of the kind proposed.
