§ Mr. Piratinasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what subjects were discussed in the talks held recently between Brigadier Glubb Pasha and officials of the Foreign Office; and in what capacity did Brigadier Glubb Pasha take part in these talks.
§ Mr. MayhewMajor-General Glubb Pasha is the Chief-of-Staff of the Transjordan Army. Discussions were held with him in London on various matters relating to the payment of His Majesty's Government's contribution to the Transjordan forces.
§ Mr. Platts-Millsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why no action has been taken against Brigadier J. B. Glubb in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Enlistment Act, 1870.
§ Mr. MayhewThe Foreign Enlistment Act does not apply to persons who accepted service in the armed forces of a foreign State at a time when that State was not at war. Brigadier Glubb was an officer of the Arab Legion for many years before it became engaged in hostilities in Palestine. I am therefore advised that the Act has no bearing on his case.
