HC Deb 22 September 1948 vol 456 cc119-20W
Mr. Platts-Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what was the nature of the representations made to the Greek Government on 31st July by His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires in Athens in connection with the declaration by King Paul on 27th July concerning Cyprus.

Mr. Mayhew

When His Majesty's Charge d'Affaires saw the Greek Prime Minister on 31st July, he handed him an Aide-Mémoire to the effect that in the view of His Majesty's Government any encouragement of agitation in favour of the union of Cyprus with Greece would not be in the best interests either of Great Britain or of Greece.
