HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 cc52-3W
62. Mr. Piratin

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total sum of money staked on race course totalisators during 1947; what revenue would have been gained if the same tax in operation at dog track totalisators were operating on race course totalisators; and what was the actual amount transferred to the fund for improving breeds of horses.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The total sum in 1947, was £21,133,774. The answer to the second part of the Question would depend largely on the extent to which, as a result of the tax, money was directed to other forms of betting. As to his third Question, I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the latest report and accounts issued by the Racecourse Betting Control Board.
