81. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many licences covering the felling of what quantity of timber were issued during the last convenient period for Bedfordshire; and how these figures compare with earlier statistics.

Mr. Belcher

In the eight months ended 31st August, 1948, 87 felling licences were issued for trees in Bedfordshire covering a total volume of 228,000 cubic feet; the figures for the corresponding period in 1947 were 77 licences for 229,000 cubic feet.

asked the President of the Board of Trade for what quantity of home-grown timber were felling licences issued during 1947; and how the figure compares with previous years.

Mr. Belcher

In 1947, felling licences were issued for 62.4 million cubic feet of standing timber, compared with 53.7 million in 1946, and 54.4 million in 1945.
