§ 36. Mr. Digbyasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will restore the grant of £50 a year to battery and company quartermasters, granted in paragraph 643 of the pre-war Territorial Army Regulations, in view of the difficulty in recruiting quartermaster sergeants who have sufficient time to keep ledgers.
§ Mr. ShinwellNo payment to battery and company quartermaster sergeants was generally authorised before the war in units which had a quartermaster on their establishment. As full-time quartermasters are now provided for major units of the Territorial Army, it was not considered necessary to re-introduce the special payments to quartermaster sergeants, but I am arranging for the matter to be further examined.
