HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 c88W
Mr. J. Morrison

asked the Minister of Food why there is a shortage of tinned home-caught fish.

Mr. Strachey

I am not aware that there is a general shortage of home-canned fish. Fish canning, however, is a seasonal operation and the new season's production of herrings is not yet available. It is possible, therefore, that in some areas of the country traders may have cleared their existing stocks, but this will be temporary.
