HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 cc80-1W
Mr. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many British subjects are expected to be repatriated from Egypt during 1948; and to which principal destinations they are being sent.

Mr. Mayhew

British subjects of United Kingdom origin qualify for repatriation to this country only when they become destitute. It is not therefore possible to say how many British subjects will be repatriated from Egypt in any given period. Whenever possible British subjects are repatriated to their territory of origin and alternative destinations are considered only when such repatriation is impracticable.
