HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 c47W
103. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for War what accommodation is available for soldiers at Churchill Barracks, Ayr; and how many soldiers were there in the month of August.

Mr. Shinwell

These barracks have a capacity of 10 officers, 20 warrant officers and sergeants, and 250 other ranks. The average daily strength of soldiers occupying the barracks during August was approximately 50 soldiers of the Regular Army; Territorial Army units totalling approximately 1,330 all ranks are also using the barracks. There are also 17 married quarters occupied by Regular soldiers and Territorial Army staff. The barracks are occupied by a depot and spare accommodation must be kept for detachments in transit.
