HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 cc40-2W
Mr. Piratin

asked the Attorney-General whether the Departmental Committee on Leaseholds has issued its report or interim recommendations; and if, in view of the distress caused by the raising of rentals by several hundreds per cent., he will take the earliest steps to implement such recommendations as can prevent this exploitation of the lack of accommodation.

The Attorney-General

The Leasehold Committee are not yet in a position to issue their report or make interim recommendations owing to the large amount of evidence which has been tendered them, and which they must first consider. I understand, however, that all written evidence has now been received and that the hearing of oral evidence has been nearly completed. The Committee realise the necessity of losing no time in making their report once this stage of their inquiries has been completed.
