HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 c23W
105. Mr. Monslow

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the great demand for fish and chips, he will increase the number of licences for friers.

Mr. Strachey

Over recent years the number of entrants to this trade has had to be strictly limited but I am glad to be able to say that from 1st October, 1948, licences to open fish frying businesses will for the time being be granted freely. I hope that there will be a number of applications from people who are able to operate suitably equipped mobile vans so that the rural areas will benefit as well as the towns. Applicants will, however, have to fulfil certain conditions in order to prove their bona fides and I shall be giving publicity to the details later.
