§ Mr. Hastingsasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the War Damage Commission is only prepared to replace damaged structures as they previously existed and not in accordance with modern by-laws; and whether in approved cases when severe hardship would otherwise be inflicted he is prepared to waive such by-laws.
§ Mr. BevanIf work, in addition to mere replacement for which the War Damage Commission are in a position to pay, is necessary to ensure compliance with the building by-laws, I am ready, on application from the local authority concerned, to consider relaxation of the by-laws under the provisions of Section 63 of the Public Health Act, 1936.
