HC Deb 09 November 1948 vol 457 cc165-6W
36. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of National Insurance what reduction there has been in the number of miners in the North Staffs coalfield who have been certified to be suffering from pneumoconiosis and silicosis respectively; and what are the factors that have brought about the improvement.

Mr. J. Griffiths

In 1947, 48 miners in North Staffordshire were certified as suffering from pneumoconiosis as compared with 61 in 1946 and 99 in 1945; but although these figures show a steady reduction it is too early to draw any conclusions from them. The above figures include cases of silicosis as I regret that separate figures for silicosis are not available.
