Mr. Mott-Radclyffeasked the Minister of Education whether he is aware that the local education authorities for Berkshire are at present unable to place in special schools for educationally sub-normal pupils over 70 applicants; and what steps he is taking to increase the accommodation required to meet the demand.
§ Mr. TomlinsonThe purchase of a large house by the Berkshire authority to make good this deficiency is not yet complete. I have not been able to promise that if the house is acquired the necessary adaptation work could be included in the 1949 building programme, in view of the many other special school projects on hand, but I shall certainly try to do so if it is at all possible.
