Mr. J. Morrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture what are the average amounts of the salaries being paid and the numbers employed in the administrative section of the rat catching department of his Ministry and in the actual rat catching section, respectively.

Salaries averaging £388 per annum are paid to 122 officers employed in my Department on administrative and clerical work in connection with the destruction of rats. Salaries averaging £284 2s. per annum are paid to 71 employees engaged to kill rats in grain and food stores owned by the Ministry of Food. In addition rat catching operators employed by the county agricultural executive committees number approximately 950, and are paid an average salary of £247 a year.
