§ 92. Mr. Gammansasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he is aware of the dissatisfaction felt in Newfoundland that a broadcast by Major F. W. Marshall was cancelled at the last 108W moment by the Commission of Government of Newfoundland; and what reply he has sent or proposes to send to the representations made to him on the subject.
§ Mr. P. Noel-BakerYes. The Newfoundland Broadcasting Corporation had decided that political broadcasting should not at present be resumed. The Newfoundland Government learned only on the day of Major Marshall's proposed talk that the Corporation had granted permission for a special exception to be made for him. The Newfoundland Government felt that an exception could not be made for one political organisation only, and that, since the general resumption of political broadcasting was at present inadvisable, the Corporation should be asked to adhere to the decision which it had made. I have carefully considered the matter, but I see no reason to question the Government's decision, and I have asked the Governor so to inform the responsible Government League.
