HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 cc119-21W
Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the President of the Board of Trade the percentage of 1920 exports, expressed in terms of volume, represented by the export figures for the first half of 1948, after making allowances for N.A.A.F.I. supplies, relief supplies, and the fact that trading with Eire is now external.

Mr. H. Wilson

Subject to all the difficulties in making this calculation because of the changing composition of exports over a period, I estimate that, on the basis given in the Question, exports in the first half of 1948 were at a rate of about 105 per cent. of the 1920 volume.
