asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in order to promote freer trade between France and this country, he will consider bringing the arrangement between the two countries for the avoidance of dual taxation into line with the accord concluded between the United States and this country.

As my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer made clear on Tuesday in answer to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Reading (Mr. Mikardo), the United Kingdom is ready, as soon as it may be convenient for French representatives, to open discussions on the lines suggested in this Question for the extension of the existing limited taxation treaty.
