HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 c125W
109. Mr. E. Evans

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is satisfied that the stocks of domestic fuel in Lowestoft and district are sufficient to meet the needs of the population; and whether, in view of the severe winter weather experienced in that area, and the surplus stocks allocated to the London area, he will cause this surplus to be diverted to Lowestoft to provide an increased allocation approximating to the northern allocation.

Mr. Gaitskell

According to the latest figures available, stocks in merchants' yards at Lowestoft amounted on 16th October to 2,728 tons or 4. 1 weeks' winter supply. Some increase in these stocks is expected by the end of the month. In addition a reserve of 1,850 tons for this district has been specially stocked from coal diverted from other Southern Regions.
