Mr. Harrisonasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in view of the non-discriminatory method of allocating petrol to commercial travellers, which makes no allowances for the extent of the area covered by such people, he will alter the present arrangements and make future allowances on the basis of the area to be covered by the applicant
§ Mr. GaitskellI am in touch with the United Commercial Travellers' Association regarding the scale of commercial travellers' maximum allowances, and am prepared to discuss with them any practicable alternative which they can put forward to the present uniform scales. I am not prepared to restore to commercial travellers as a class the 10 per cent. cut which was applied to all motorists receiving supplementary allowances.
§ Mr. Marplesasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will consider granting an extra allowance of petrol to commercial travellers who are paid on a commission basis only.
§ Brigadier Medlicottasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will adjust the present arrangements for the issue of petrol to commercial travellers by restoring the 10 per cent. cut which was made last year; and also by arranging in future to assess the allowance on the basis of individual needs.
