HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 c131W
Mr. J. Morrison

asked the Minister of Food what benefits are now being achieved by maintaining the 5s. limit on restaurant meals.

Mr. Strachey

The 5s. maximum on meals in establishments is in line with the policy of the Government to stabilise and, where possible, reduce food prices. It also limits the amount of money which can be spent by restaurants in buying a number of foods which, though much sought after by the housewife, are not suitable for rationing.
