HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 c100W
60. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any allotment of Belgian francs has been made to the Egyptian Government in excess to the provision of the Anglo-Egyptian Payments Agreement.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Transfers of sterling by Egypt to Belgium are being approved up to a limit of £1 million as an exceptional measure in order to allow settlement of certain contracts concluded before 5th December, 1947, when payments of sterling from Egypt to Belgium were suspended. This arrangement provides Egypt with facilities which would not otherwise have been made available under the terms of the Anglo-Egyptian Financial Agreement.
