HC Deb 02 November 1948 vol 457 cc60-1W
Lieut.-Colonel Hamilton

asked the Minister of National Insurance whether the National Insurance Advisory Committee are considering the special position of seasonal workers in agriculture in relation to unemployment benefit under the new Act; and whether steps will be taken to ensure that such workers will be able to draw benefit this winter.

Mr. J. Griffiths

I have recently referred to the National Insurance Advisory Committee for consideration and advice the whole question of additional conditions for the receipt of benefit under the new Act by seasonal workers generally. Meanwhile I propose to amend the existing regulations so as to enable a seasonal worker in agriculture to receive this winter as a transitional measure not less than the number of days of unemployment benefit he would have been entitled to had the special agricultural scheme which operated up to 5th July, 1948, still been in force.
